Jurgen Klopp suggested clubs must adapt to the rising cost of transfers.

Liverpool spent a world record £75 million on Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking about the transfer market at news conference on Friday, Klopp said: "I'm surprised about the development in the last two years, let me say, because there were big steps.

"But the last half a year changed pretty much everything and we, as a club, cannot change that.

"Of course, not each club would be able to do it, but a lot of clubs are able to do it and will do it in the future. How the market always is, it's all about the need and the opportunity.

"If you want to sign a player, the last thing I think about actually is the price, to be honest -- not because I like throwing money around, it's only because we are thinking about the player. There's one moment when you get the price and then you have to accept it or not.

"It's a big change in football in the last few months and years. We have to adapt to it. That's how it is.

"It changed already and it doesn't now mean that all transfers will now be in this category, but it's the same how it was before. Half a year ago, I think, there was a big transfer for an offensive player and now we have a big transfer for a defensive player.

"It's not nice, but that's the market, that's the world. We have to adapt."

Sevilla has hired Vincenzo Montella as manager.

Eduardo Berizzo was fired by Sevilla on Dec. 22.

Montella was fired by AC Milan in November.

Everton has agreed upon a £25 million ($33.6 million) deal with Besiktas to sign striker Cenk Tosun.

Sam Allardyce has tracked the former Eintracht Frankfurt and Gaziantepspor player for some time and recommended him to Crystal Palace.

Everton previously tried to sign Olivier Giroud both in the summer and earlier in December.

Everton has been searching for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

Carlos Carvalhal has been hired as manager of Swansea City.

Carvalhal left Sheffield Wednesday by mutual consent on Christmas Eve.

Carvalhal succeeds Paul Clement, who was sacked a little over two weeks ago.

Huw Jenkins, the Swansea chairman, said: “We are very pleased with the appointment. We felt we needed to get the managerial situation resolved as soon as possible and while the timing is not always perfect, we can look forward to the second half of the campaign with renewed optimism.

Liverpool has agreed upon a £75 million ($100.6 million) fee with Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.

The fee is a word record for a defender. Liverpool nearly signed Van Dijk during the summer for £60 million.

Saints only paid £11.5 million for Van Dijk in 2015.

“Liverpool football club can confirm they have reached an agreement with Southampton for the transfer of Virgil van Dijk,” read an official statement. “The Reds have agreed a deal with the south coast club, and the player himself, that will see the 26-year-old defender move to Anfield when the transfer window re-opens on 1 January 2018.”

Paris Saint-Germain have interest in signing Lassana Diarra.

Diarra has been of interest to the Ligue 1 leaders as a successor to holding midfielder Thiago Motta since he was spell at Marseille from 2015-17.

According to the source close to the player, PSG and Diarra were close to agreeing terms when former sporting director Olivier Letang and ex-director of football Patrick Kluivert were handling transfers in Paris. However, since Antero Henrique's arrival as the former's replacement, Diarra's profile is one that has been revisited.

UAE Arabian Gulf League side Al Jazira confirmed on Christmas Eve that Diarra's contract had been cancelled by "mutual consent."

Arsene Wenger denied a claim by Sam Allardyce that Olivier Giroud's wife blocked his transfer to Everton.

Giroud said earlier this season that he was "very close" to joining Everton before deciding to stay with the Gunners, where he has been a back-up to new signing Alexandre Lacazette.

"No, I don't think so," Wenger said. "He could have joined Everton and stayed basically in London. I don't think that was the problem."

Allardyce made the comments at his own news conference this week, when asked if he thought a deal for Giroud could be made in January.

"I wouldn't have thought so because he refused to come last time," Allardyce said. "He doesn't want to move north of London, I don't think. Or his wife doesn't. It is very important to the wives you know. Normally they are the bosses, I say that with experience."

Manchester United has interest in signing Paulo Dybala from Juventus with reports of an €80 million ($94.9 million) offer.

Dybala signed with Juventus in 2015 for just over €30 million.

Mourinho is searching for a number 10.

Barcelona and Real Madrid also have interest in Dybala.

Marouane Fellaini admits he does not know if he will stay at Manchester United even if he receives another contract offer.

Fellaini rejected an offer in September.

Fellaini told Belgian publication Humo: "Honestly, I don't know. I do have something in mind, but I cannot say anything about this yet."

He added: "If Manchester didn't want me anymore, they would have told me. They made an offer and they will likely make me another one. Whether I will accept that I am not sure. Those things don't happen overnight."

Jose Mourinho has been clear he wants to re-sign Fellaini. 

Manchester City has interest in a summer transfer for Fred of Shakhtar Donetsk.

Fred is capable of playing as holding midfielder and City are expected to add another player in that position in the summer with Yaya Toure out of contract at the end of the season.

Fred also has six caps for Brazil but has not played for the Selecao since June 2015 although he was an unused substitute for World Cup qualifiers in October.
